Studies and Planning Department in brief
Planning plays a crucial role for the success of any organization, as it is the first function of management and no institution can achieve its goals, whether it uses a traditional or modern style of management, unless it practices planning. The plan is a set of goals that the institution is trying to achieve with the development of the necessary resources to achieve those goals and therefore planning is the process of developing appropriate plans by collecting information and identifying available alternatives and choosing the best alternative among them and identifying areas of successful behavior that lead to the achievement of those plans and for this the planning is related to future visions more than at the present time and the ranges of planning vary there are long-term plans that extend to five years and medium-term three-year and short The long-term plan, the more ambiguous its results are due to the high degree of uncertainty arising from the complexity and dynamism of the environment and the scarcity of resources in it. In view of the University of Basra's awareness of the importance of planning as a basic function, it established a specialized department under the name (Studies, Planning and Follow-up) on 24/7/2002, to later change the name to the Department of Studies and Planning.
The Department of Studies and Planning is one of the most important administrative departments at the University of Basrah, as it is the beginning of knowledge management and keeping pace with scientific development by studying reality and drawing the contours of the future. The department has a strategic mission by collecting all data and statistics about the university and its colleges and centers, and through studying these data, the department contributes to drawing short, medium and long-term strategic plans according to the statistical implications of all university formations. The department also contributes to shaping the future of the university by managing the need for developments and expanding the general structure of the university to advance reality, keep pace with development and meet the community's need for cadres and specialists in various branches of science and knowledge.
The department consists of three main administrative divisions and 4 units :
1- Planning Division.
2- Statistics Division.
3- Data and Informatics Division , which consists of two units.
a- Electronic Systems Unit.
b- HR system unit.
4- Unit of organizational structures.
5- Sustainability Unit.
Department Managers:
The department was established at the University of Basrah in 2002 and the department is managed by those listed below:
1- Dr. Abdul KhalQ Yassin Zayer Jassim from 24/7/2002 to 1/9/2003.
2- Prof. Dr. Abdul MahdSaleh Al-Ansari from 5/9/2003 to 1/3/2004. from a lower position)
3- Eng. Ali Nasser Hussain from 1/3/2004 to 1/5/2004.
4- Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Manhal from 1/6/2004 to 17/4/2011
5- Assist. Prof. Osama Nazim Jaafar from 18/4/2011 to 2018
6- Lecturer Dr. Haider Jassim Fadel from 2018 to 29 / 9 / 2021.
7- Prof. Dr. Hana’ Mortada Ali from 29 / 9 /2022 until now.
